
North Carolina Math/Science Education Network Pre-College Program
The North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network Pre-College Program (NC-MSEN PCP) is a STEM-enrichment program that recruits students from underserved populations in grades 6 through 12 and provides them with experiences that will equip them to attend a four-year college/university to pursue majors in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. One of four public university campuses across North Carolina that offers this program, the NC State chapter partners with school districts and schools in northeastern and central North Carolina. The program includes:
- Exposure to STEM careers
- Information about college admissions and scholarship
- Enrichment courses in engineering, math, science, and technology
- Opportunities to participate in local/state competitions

2023 MSEN Day
On April 22, students from all four NC-MSEN Pre-College Programs across the state competed at MSEN Day, a day of competitive events ranging from academic math and science competitions to hands-on STEM activities.

2023 MSEN Seniors
On May 13, NC State's North Carolina Math/Science Education Network Pre-College Program (MSEN) students were recognized for their outstanding academic work and program participation at a formal awards ceremony.

Friday Institute Hosts High School Students in Career Accelerator Workforce Development Program
The Friday Institute hosted local high school students to learn about education careers, practice interview skills and gain insight into some of the Friday Institute’s projects as part of WakeEd Partnership's Career Accelerator Program.

Developing STEM Identity in Rural Audiences through Community-based Engineering Design (DeSIRE)DeSIRE is a partnership between the College of Engineering and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at North Carolina State University (NCSU), the NC Mathematics and Science Education Network Pre-College Program (MSEN), the Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) district, and local advanced manufacturing industry. The Friday Institute (FI) is pleased to serve as the research partner for the DeSIRE project.

eSTEM: Enhancing STEM Identity Through E-mentoring ExperiencesThe eSTEM Strategies project will establish an e-mentoring program for underrepresented high school students living in rural North Carolina that will engage them in engineering-related experiences supported by near-peer relationships with mentors of similar background, race, gender and experiences, in an effort to improve students’ attitudes about and participation in STEM.
