In 2016, the North Carolina General Assembly mandated a plan for modernizing public school business systems, including estimated costs and a timeline for implementation. The NC State Board of Education and the Friday Institute provided the School Business System Modernization Plan and continue to create supporting documents and provide implementation support. An initial plan was created and subsequently funded in 2017. A four-year modernization project with a statewide roll-out began in 2018. This effort continues today with business process analysis and systems modernization across the North Carolina education enterprise. The Friday Institute conducts analysis, policy review, modeling, and technical assistance to support the implementation of modern school business systems across North Carolina.
