The focus of this project is to work with students, teachers and schools beginning in 7th grade and provide academic support, college and career readiness programming, and teacher professional development with the goal of enabling students to succeed academically as they move along through high school and into a four-year undergraduate program.
Indiana GEAR UP is a partnership with the governor of Indiana, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the Indiana Department of Education, Purdue University, NC State University, the 92 county extension offices across the state, the 10 regional educational services centers, and 10 school districts across the state. The project was awarded at $24.5 million in fall 2016 for the seven-year program to serve up to 7,000 students across the state.
Dr. Johnson was the original PI who authored the grant during her time at Purdue University. Dr. Johnson’s role is to lead the research and data aspects of the project.
