Triangle Literacy Council – Bull City YouthBuild

Triangle Literacy Council’s Bull City YouthBuild is a non-profit 9-month education and leadership program in Durham for low-income youth not currently enrolled in school and unemployed. Through the program, youth gain academic and leadership skills by receiving their high school equivalency and building a house with Habitat for Humanity to give back to their community. YouthBuild students receive more than 1,000 hours of training during their 9 months enrolled in the program, followed by a full year of case management services to ensure a successful transition. Our YouthBuild participants have helped construct three homes in the city of Durham in collaboration with Durham Habitat for Humanity. Dr. Lee helped publish two books with YouthBuild, and now Nina Schoonover is helping the YouthBuild authors finish their third publication. YouthBuild’s third and newest book is titled See Unbroken Pieces through the Shadows and is set to be published and released very soon. Congratulations, YouthBuild!
