K-12 Statistics and Data Science Education Fall 2022 Chat & Chew: Use of Tools for Supporting Work with Data

In September 2022, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine held a hybrid convening focused on Foundations of Data Science for Students in Grades K-12. Several faculty and staff from NC State were active participants in this event. There were also four commissioned papers that represent a small slice of the perspectives and issues relevant to data science in K-12 spaces. Faculty and staff at NC State are engaging in different activities related to data science in K-12 through research, tool development, curriculum development, assessment and informal learning programs for K-12 students and professional development for teachers. To help foster connections across groups, the Hub for Innovation and Research in Statistics Education at the Friday Institute is sponsoring a “Chat & Chew” discussion series. At each lunchtime gathering, participants will have an opportunity to get to know one another and have targeted discussions around one of the four papers from the convening.
