Recognizing Accelerated Mathematics Potential in Under-represented People
The goal of the RAMP-UP project is to encourage under-represented students to enroll in more advanced mathematics courses in middle and high school. The project partners graduate students in STEM disciplines with undergraduates in Mathematics, Engineering, Science, and Mathematics Education to provide elementary, middle and high school teachers with support in their classrooms. These supportive activities include developing and teaching inquiry-based mathematics lessons, tutoring, assisting with before and after-school mathematics-related clubs, and hosting Family Math Nights.
RAMP-UP is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and the GE Foundation and is directed by the team of Dr. Laura Bottomley (Engineering), Mrs. Elizabeth Parry (Engineering), and Dr. Karen Hollebrands (Mathematics Education). The 5-year project will end in May 2010.
