New Literacies Teacher Leader Institute
Overview of Institute Activities
(For Detailed Daily Agendas Click Here)
The philosophy of the New Literacies Teacher Leader Institute is based on the time-honored approach of “learning by doing.” Through a project-based inquiry process, you will create innovative lessons to be used in your classrooms that incorporate interdisciplinary content, new literacies prompted by emerging technologies, and selected 21st century skills. With an emphasis on collaboration and design, you will learn to facilitate online reading comprehension, use social networking as a learning tool, and leverage video/multimedia for analysis and production. A special effort will be made to include resources from a variety of subject areas. You will be encouraged to think creatively about content in your curriculum area as you develop materials for online reading, social networking, and digital video/multimedia use.
Each day, Monday through Thursday, you will engage in 4 high-powered sessions (described below) that are designed to support creation and development of technology-enhanced lessons. Additionally, on Friday, everyone will participate in the DESIGN STUDIO SHOWCASE, sharing lessons learned and created during the institute.
Over all five days of the institute, we will feature inquiry as a model for developing new literacies instructional materials and as a framework for you to create innovative approaches to using new literacies technologies in your classroom. You will be provided with a variety of online tools to share your work with others including wikis, blogs, and video sharing resources.
