SAS/Friday Institute Overview
Quote on Partnership
“Education is a powerful pathway to possibility for individuals, organizations and communities,” said Mark Milliron, Ph.D., vice president of the SAS Education and Medical Practice and a lifelong educator. “It opens doors to economic opportunity and individual empowerment in a way no other force can. Our partnership with the Friday Institute exemplifies not only what technology companies should do to help drive innovation in education, but what we must do to ensure that today’s students are equipped to become tomorrow’s leaders.”
Overview of collaboration:
SAS is providing analytic applications for data-based decision making, integration of analytics into new teaching and learning methods, and resources to measure and assess new educational practices and policies. Through the SAS partnership, researchers at the Friday Institute will have state-of-the-art tools for aligning resources and evaluating the effectiveness of new teaching and learning methods with evidence-based outcomes. SAS software also will be available to teachers, administrators and students at partner schools throughout North Carolina through the Virtual Computing Lab at N.C. State University and the technology platform being developed by the Friday Institute.
SAS software supplies users with the information they need to make the best decisions for more effective and efficient learning. SAS is instrumental in developing new curriculum resources that integrate and advance the use of analytics within multiple disciplines. Since its founding nearly 30 years ago, SAS has led the way in integrating education and technology. Over the past decade, SAS has supported this commitment to education in a variety of ways, including:
- Developing Web-based curriculum resources for grades 6-14 (SAS inSchool).
- Supplying metrics for teaching and learning effectiveness and accountability via the Web (SAS EVAAS for K-12).
- Providing performance management solutions to help college and university administrations run more efficiently.
In addition, the founders of SAS created Cary Academy, a preparatory school for students in grades 6-12 that is a model for the integration of technology into the classroom.
