College of Education Dean Kay Moore interviews author Pat Mora
During the College of Education's celebration of American Education Week, noted author Pat
Mora spoke with Dean Kay Moore at the William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational
Innovation. The pair discussed several issues related to education and children.
A literacy advocate excited about sharing bookjoy, Mora founded the family literacy
initiative, El día de los niños/ El día de los libros, Children's Day/ Book Day, now
housed at the American Library Association. The year-long commitment to daily linking all
children to books, languages and cultures is celebrated on April 30th. An award-winning
author of poetry, nonfiction and children's books, Mora is completing "Dear Teacher: Seven
Practices for Creative Educators."
Mora is a popular national speaker shaped by the U.S.-Mexico border where she was born a
nd spent much of her life. The mother of three adult children, she enjoys family/friend
time, reading, gardening, cooking, museums, and the wonder of the natural world when she
travels and when she returns to her home in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico.
