Celebrate children and books with "Día" founder Pat Mora
Raleigh, N.C. Noted author, poet and child advocate Pat Mora
spent time at the College of Education last fall during American Education Week.
Mora founded the family literacy initiative, El día de los niños/ El día
de los libros, Children's Day/ Book Day, now housed at the American Library Association.
The year-long commitment to daily linking all children to books, languages and cultures
is celebrated on April 30.
While on campus at the William and Ida Friday Institute, Mora taped an
interview with Dean Kay Moore and created public service spots to promote "Día."
Everyone can celebrate "Día" by watching the videos online
here.
Mora is a popular national speaker shaped by the U.S.-Mexico border where she
was born and spent much of her life. The mother of three adult children, she enjoys family/friend
time, reading, gardening, cooking, museums, and the wonder of the natural world when she travels
and when she returns to her home in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico.
