IMPPACT: Investigating the Meaningfulness of Pre-service Programs Across the Continuum of Teaching in Science Education

Funded by the National Science Foundation

Building on the SALISH research (funded by the US Department of Education), the IMPPACT project is investigating the longitudinal impact of science teacher education programs and program components on secondary teachers. Data are being collected on pre-service teachers at three points in their programs and at two points during their first five years of teaching. Data are being collected simultaneously at NC State University, the University of Iowa, and Syracuse University, allowing for comparison. Descriptive data about courses and instructional strategies, including in science content courses, provide a rich view into the nature of science teacher education and residual effects during the early years of teaching.
