Innovative Leadership Academy (ILA)

The Innovative Leadership Academy (ILA) is a co-operative venture between The Friday Institute and the College of Education (Educational Leadership Policy Studies Department) at NC State University. Its mission is to conduct research into change processes that are essential to create more effective leadership models in school systems. The Academy emerged when six school districts in northeastern North Carolina, also participating in the Friday Institute’s 21st Century Teaching and Learning initiative, requested leadership training to assist with designing innovative solutions to problems, spreading and scaling up effective innovations, and sustaining those innovations over time. Researchers are not only focusing on group processes, effective innovation and change methods, but are collecting data on the success of the teams in implementing more collaborative and professional approaches toward leadership and sustainability of innovation.
