Brown Bag-Peggy Hoon

Wednesday March 11, 2009 | 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM | Collaboratory Commons

Please attend the next Brown Bag seminar March 11, 2009 at the Friday Institute on NCSU's Centennial Campus. It will begin at 9:00AM with refreshments being served at 8:30AM in the Collaboratory Commons. Our presenter is Peggy Hoon, Special Assistant to the Provost for Copyright Administration. The presentation is entitled Copyright Ownership: Understanding NC State’s Copyright Ownership Regulation

Academic publishing and copyright are the topics of this presentation, for all who are or expect to be publishing papers, developing materials, and, generally, generating work that is understood as “intellectual property.”  Understanding your rights and responsibilities as a copyright holder is the foundation for managing your copyright responsibly.  Topics covered include copyright ownership principles, NC State’s Copyright Ownership Regulation, including the shop right, and the use of copyrighted materials here at the University.

Peggy Hoon, J.D., is NCSU’s Special Assistant to the Provost for Copyright Administration.  In this role, Ms. Hoon helps shape the university’s policies and regulations with regard to copyright.  She provides guidance to faculty and others in the NC State community on copyright ownership or use issues and policies and speaks frequently on these topics, both on campus and around the country. She has developed a new website (http://provost.ncsu.edu/ copyright/) focused entirely on matters of copyright.  Ms. Hoon is the 2008 recipient of the L. Ray Patterson Copyright Award: In Support of Users’ Rights.
