Members of the Friday Institute Evaluation Team, Dr. Jeni Corn and Dr. Melinda Mollette, in collaboration with Neill Kimrey, Director of the Instructional Technology Division at the NC Department of Public Instruction, presented the NCLB Enhancing Education Through Technology – IMPACT Evaluation Report to the NC State Board of Education on Thursday, May 6, 2010. This presentation shared research highlights from evaluation studies conducted by the Friday Institute since 2003 on the IMPACT model, North Carolina’s guidelines for media and technology programs. IMPACT components include: having a full-time technology facilitator and media coordinator in place; developing a school-wide focus on flexible access to computer labs, mobile computer carts, and libraries; in combination with collaborative planning. Overall, student achievement in IMPACT elementary and middle schools is exhibiting a promising trend toward improvement in Reading and Math.  Because the high schools received the bulk of their funding to begin implementation in summer of 2008, the current evaluation study focuses on determining the extent to which the IMPACT Model has a long-term effect on student achievement at the high school level.
