Dr. Kathryn M. Moore
Dean, College of Education
Kathryn Moore became Dean of the College of Education at NC State University in 2000, and has led the development of The William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.
During her tenure at the College of Education, new research awards have averaged $3.5 to $4 million each year since 2001. In 2002-03, the College received $5 million in grants. Dean Moore has strengthened and maintained partnerships with North Carolina school districts and corporations engaged in educational related activities.
She is a member of the State's Business Education Technology Alliance headed by Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue. Dean Moore joined former N.C. governors Jim Hunt, Jim Holshouser, and Jim Martin on the Board of Directors of DonorsChooseNC, an online, nonprofit marketplace where teachers and donors connect to give students the resources they need to learn. Dean Moore also led the creation of the SAY Village, a partnership with University Housing that provides a residential living and learning village in Lee Hall for students interested in advocating for youth.
Prior to becoming Dean, Dr. Moore was professor and founding director of the Center for the Study of Advanced Learning Systems in the College of Education at Michigan State University in East Lansing. She also served on the faculties of Penn State and Cornell Universities. While at Penn State, Dean Moore was Director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education. She is the author of numerous books, monographs and funded studies concerning the organization and administration of colleges and universities.
Her most recent honors include the Leadership Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), which recognizes outstanding leadership in advancing the study of higher education. She was named to the Ohio State University College of Education's Hall of Fame. Dean Moore was a Fulbright Research Scholar in Brazil in 1984-85, and has lectured and traveled extensively in Europe, Latin America, China, and South Africa.
Dean Moore’s degrees include a B.A., B.S. and M.A. in Education from Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Educational Policy Studies.
