The content for this day will focus on what teaching and learning looks like in 1:1 classrooms.

Welcome, Institute Objectives, Agenda Review, and Logistics
|
Virtual Visits to 1:1 Classrooms
During this session participants will have an opportunity see what teaching and learning looks and feels like in a 1:1 classroom through video clips demonstrating various instructional techniques (e.g. project based learning, differentiated instruction, action research, web 2.0, visual thinking, robotics), followed by facilitated table debriefs.

Classroom Resources to Transform Teaching and Learning
This session will allow participants to have hands-on experience with an array of 21st Century instructional resources that teachers can use to enhance teaching and learning. There will be 3-5 concurrent breakouts led by NCSU faculty/classroom teacher pairs, showcasing how teachers can incorporate resources such as the blogs and wikis, Google Earth, and Sketchpad into the curriculum.

Breakfast Roundtable Conversations and Pre-scheduled Consultancies with an Expert

What Works and What Doesn’t: Words of Wisdom from Leaders in the Trenches
There will be two tracks for this session: one for teams that are getting started and another for teams that are already on their way and need to take their 1:1 programs to the next level. Both tracks will address issues such as:
- Strategies for creating a shared, long-term vision for your 1:1 learning program;
- How to generate and sustain buy-in and commitment from teachers, parents, school board, community etc.
- Allocation of resources
- Planning for sustainability
- Evaluating the effectiveness of 1:1 programs and continuous improvement

Nuts and Bolts
Policies for usage and management, copyright policies; parent/community engagement orientations

Lunch
|
21st Century Leadership Approaches: Lessons from Innovation Leaders Academy
Distributive, contextual, and sustainable leadership approaches will be discussed followed by breakouts.

Break
|
Team-Time with a Consultant
Debrief the first two days (major lessons learned and how they relate to particular school/district). Discuss a burning issue that the team is facing – get input from consultant.

“Sandbox”
Various technology toys e.g. flip cameras, iPod touch) will be available for participants to play with. Teachers or Friday Institute faculty/staff who use the tool explains how to make use of the tools in instruction

Thursday July 17, 2008 (8:00-3:00pm)
The content for the morning will address professional development, classroom practices, and technology.

Breakfast Roundtable Conversations and Pre-scheduled Consultancies with an Expert

Getting it Right: Building and Sustaining the Capacity and Infrastructure for Innovation
This morning will consist of four concurrent strands: professional development, classroom practices, technology infrastructure, and fostering and sustaining change.

Strand I: Professional Development
This strand will include sessions that address how to assess the professional development needs and plan accordingly; and an overview of the different forms of online professional development that are currently available. |
Strand II: Classroom Practices
Use of visual resources in instruction, classroom management approaches, and others. |
Strand III: Technology Infrastructure
Content of this strand will address creating and maintaining a refreshed, reliable technology infrastructure and effective technical and instructional support. |
Strand IV: Fostering and Sustaining Change
Team leaders will have the opportunity in this session to delve deeper into leadership strategies for facilitating and guiding the change process.

Team Planning Time
Guided by an expert consultant teams will have the opportunity to debrief, reflect on what was learned, discuss next steps and outline a six month school/district specific workplan

Closing Remarks/Reflections – Chris Dede
Moving forward – what next steps should be on your radar screen; how to take what you’ve learned and make it actionable
